Windows Phone 7 is the Latest release from Microsoft to tap the Smart phone market . And with Nokia teaming up with Microsoft , the game gets more interesting . Here we have given a detailed review of the Windows Phone 7 and the various phases in Windows phone 7 development .
Look and feel :
The software's touch responsiveness and speed is a big WOW . The standard is so good that is seems the best in the industry besides Iphone . Microsoft has invested a lot in making the over all experience a kick ass experience. The homescreen tiles spin away and back again every time we open and close apps - this is one thing guess some improvement is needed . Over all the OS boils down to 3 elements : The tiles , application list and Hub pages . Finding things and searching for stuff is a bit cumbersome - there is no global search available .
First boot-up :
As soon as you turn on the Windows Phone 7 , the thing that you will notice is the speed of the boot-up sequence . The speed is far better than the other smart phones and platforms available in the market . We can clearly see the speed of the old Nokia phones coupled up in this new shiny device .
Contacts :
The contacts is really amazing and simple . You need to go into the People hub, tapping the + icon, and following the prompts to create a group. Once saved, you can e-mail and text all the members of the group. What's even more cool is that group contacts allows you to see the status updates and photos of only members in the group and not everyone in your address book, so it is a nice filter if you have a large number of friends in Facebook.
Keyboard :
The WP7 keyboard is as simple and clean as the rest of the OS . In fact it is so accurate and seamless and equal to the IPhone Keyword and much better than the Android keyboard. word correction is at its best , correcting the words as we type in . This can also be controlled to be as per our wish .Selecting letters in a textbox is by a long tap and then using the cursor that pops up over your finger .
The lock screen :
When ever you pick up the device it displays a large image you have setup as Background with the necessary items like Date , time , Missed calls , messages etc. To unlock it you need to swipe your finger over and type in your password .
Messaging :
The messaging is made very easy and cool . All the messages and mails are grouped as in Gmail - so we no ned to scroll through all the messages to find one . Exchange support is added to search for emails from the server .There are a lot of sync frequency options, including push, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, hourly, and manual updating. Push works very smoothly, but the down side is - it seems to consume a lot of battery .MMS (at least photos) display inline, but can be saved to your phone as well. Long pressing on individual messages gives you the option to delete or forward them
Voice to text :
Powered by Microsoft's Tell Me division the voice to text is really enhanced in this version . With web searches there is always a confirmation .
Browser :
This version is based on IE9, rather than the previous IE7 which was really crappy. Zooming is done with a pinch gesture and is very smooth. "pin to start" is the option that lets turns a page into a home screen tile . Panning and scrolling is extremely smooth and never slows down even on heavy pages.Neither Flash nor Silverlight are currently supported on pages .
